What does a Sustrans bike ride assistant volunteer do?
Bike rides run during the school day and after school. We mainly cycle to the beach or Stanmer Park. School staff and parents attend the rides to look after the children so we are looking for volunteers to help run the rides.
A volunteer would start as a backmarker and you would cycle at the speed of the slowest rider. Full support and informal training provided.
What we're looking for
We are looking for volunteers who:
- enjoy working with children
- have good communication and organisational skills
- are confident cyclists
- are enthusiastic
- are patient and friendly.
Time commitment
You will need to help with six or more rides a year and be available during the school day and term time.
Training and support offered
- Signing training
- Ride and walk leader training
- First aid training
- Organising and leading a volunteer task day training
- Other training can be requested.
