Engaging Northern Ireland workers with active travel

In Northern Ireland, we support employers to encourage their employees to consider active travel in their daily routine.

What we offer

We engage with workplaces by delivering a range of events, activities, training, information and personal support to enable a shift towards active travel to work.

Our team co-ordinate a packed programme of activities to motivate and engage employees.

With the COVID-19 restrictions, we have adapted our delivery and programme to enable you to still consider active travel and the benefits of cycling and walking for your physical and mental health.

We are still delivering in small groups, one to one sessions and online offering:

  • information webinars
  • workplace pool bikes and e-bikes & free trials
  • lunchtime led walks and bike rides
  • bike maintenance workshops and free bike checks
  • bike registration with the PSNI
  • Cycle to Work Day events
  • step challenges and competitions
  • active travel planning for commuters
  • assistance in developing a workplace Active Travel Plan
  • recruitment and training of workplace Active Travel Champions
  • Cycle-Friendly Employer accreditation advice and support
  • Active Travel Challenge
  • promote the PHA’s 5 steps to wellbeing.

I'm loving cycling to the train station! Being a mum of four means it's hard to find time to fit exercise into your routine so doing it on your way to and from work is a win-win for me. Blockquote quotation marks

Active Travel Champions support colleagues by sharing information, organising workplace activities, such as stalls at events, challenges, bike rides or lunchtime walks.

Promote active travel in the workplace

For employers and employees who do not work in Leading the Way with Active Travel organisations or East Belfast, we may still be able to provide practical support to enable you to promote walking and cycling for commuting and business travel to your colleagues.

Our Cycle Skills Team can offer cycle training packages for employees within your workplace. We can help you or your organisation learn to cycle safely and confidently on the road.
