Construction (CDM) Manager

As our new CDM Manager you will provide the necessary assurance and support to our programme and project teams to ensure that construction and maintenance projects preserve safe and effective delivery of interventions and changes to the built environment, and will act as a senior influencer within active travel in Scotland.

About the role

As our new CDM Manager, you will provide assurance and support to our programme and project teams. You will ensure that construction and maintenance projects preserve safe and effective delivery of interventions and changes to the built environment, and will act as a senior influencer within active travel in Scotland.

This role has a wide remit across various parts of the business, and will work directly with representatives from central and local government, active travel delivery partners, communities, Transport Scotland and other key people.

You will be responsible for setting the assurance of safe and effective implementation of projects, and the training, prioritization, and allocation of resources to deliver projects to satisfy Sustrans legal duties under CDM 2015.

You will work collaboratively across the organisation, including the UK Design, Engineering and Assurance functions with other programmes, services and a Programme Management Office.

This role will require travel and work at locations as necessary to undertake work on behalf of Sustrans. You will work from a Sustrans office in Edinburgh or Glasgow with the flexibility to work from home, or home-based within reasonable travelling distance from Edinburgh or Glasgow.

 

About you

You will build relationships easily and communicate effectively with a wide range of people, from senior leaders, partners and the general public, allowing you to positively influence people within the Active Travel Sector in Scotland at all levels.

You should be able to demonstrate your experience of Civil Engineering projects including

  • Client and stakeholder relationships management
  • Programme plan management
  • Programme budget responsibility
  • Programme/s risk management and mitigation

You will have:

  • A degree (or equivalent ) in Civil Engineering, Quantity Surveying, Construction Management, or a related field
  • Relevant experience of civil engineering contract management (NEC3&4) including short and full contracts and for construction and the provision of services
  • Extensive knowledge of Health and safety management including CDM 2015
  • Good knowledge of Highway regulations and guidance such as Manual for Streets, Cycle By Design, DMRB, TSRGD, MCHW and Traffic Signs Manuals
